Narrowboat renovation

Some projects just come out of nowhere. It was the same with this boat.

We had been following a few narrowboating YouTube channels for inspiration and would love to live on a boat one day (after we travel around the world). Then one day MiRinda found this Facebook Marketplace advert for a project boat and said: “Let’s just have a look, so we’ll know what to expect in the future when we rebuild our own boat.”

So we drove to a nearby marina where it was sitting on hard standing and had a look — not in full detail, as I wasn’t expecting anything to come from it.

When we arrived back home, we made a quick calculation out of curiosity — the price of the boat, necessary repairs, tools, materials, time, marina fees… Fast forward to the next day: MiRinda called the seller and bought the boat 🙂

And that’s how this 6-month renovation project started — with the intention of learning something new, meeting new people from a different environment, testing our skills, getting an idea of what to expect for the “future” boat project, and most importantly, at least breaking even and not losing money.

In this gallery you can see what six months of stripping, cleaning, sanding, welding, painting, and endless moving of things looks like when you do something with someone you love — and still manage to have quality time together, even during the hard work.
