Morocco - MNAM, and few more days in Sahara

After several days in the remote parts of the Sahara and Erg Chegaga - the largest expanse of sand dunes in Morocco - we arrived at Erg Chebbi. It’s not the biggest dune field, but it has the highest dunes, reaching around 150-160 metres.

Along the way we also visited MNAM - Morocco National Automobile Museum, founded and owned by Sheikh Hamad bin Hamdan (yes, the same one who owns the famous Emirates National Auto Museum and holds records for the largest collection of 4×4 vehicles and the world’s largest motorised model car: a 4-to-1 drivable scale replica of a Willys Jeep).

Admission is free, and most of the time the museum actually looks closed. But if you stop by and knock on the massive gate, someone will usually come and open it for you. We even heard the story of the “Double Jeep” and how it had to be driven there with a police escort because the roads had to be temporarily closed so it could pass.

Later we found a nice camp spot under a tree that gave us some shade - perfect for doing laundry, checking the car, and small maintenance.

The following days were dedicated to driving in the dunes again, meeting some locals, and simply enjoying the scenery. As the sun started to set, we walked through the dunes and filled small jars with orange sand to keep as a memory of this amazing experience.
