Morocco – Rif Mountains, Akchour, God’s Bridge, Chefchaouen
Driving through the Rif Mountains, following remote tracks and passing through small villages rarely visited by outsiders. The route eventually led to a dead-end road in a quiet settlement surrounded by cannabis plantations, with plants drying openly on rooftops and around the houses. Locals watched us with smiles and curiosity as we carefully turned around and made our way back.
Continuing through the region, we reached Akchour and walked to the waterfalls and the well-known God’s Bridge, a natural rock arch hidden in the mountains. After some time exploring the area, we drove on to find a wild camp spot by a small river, where we cooled off with a swim, shared the water with fish, and even spotted a large turtle.
The next day, we arrived in Chefchaouen, the Blue Pearl of Morocco. The town is known for its blue-painted houses, narrow streets, and vibrant atmosphere. Compared to the remote mountains and desert we had been travelling through, it felt busy and more focused on tourism, with shops, cafés, and visitors everywhere. After a short stay, we headed back into the mountains to find quieter surroundings again.
