Chasing the Sun in The South Downs, Sussex
Our day began at 4.30 am after just a few hours sleep and well before our first ‘cuppa’. We planned to watch the sunrise at Beachy Head Lighthouse, a granite, 33 m hight (108tf) tower set on a concrete base below the cliffs and surrounded by the English Channel. It is striking in any weather or season, but the thought of the first rays touching its summit inspired us to drive 350 miles south, rise before dawn and wait on the clifftop.
