Morocco - crossing from Ceuta, down to Casablanca
First stage of our Moroccan adventure.
After crossing into Morocco, everything changed. We had prepared ourselves in advance and thought we knew what to expect, but the first few hours and kilometres felt a bit overwhelming. It’s difficult to describe - the rhythm, the style, the atmosphere - everything was different, even compared to what we had read. Not in a bad way at all, but it definitely took us a while to relax and tune in to the Moroccan pace.
The first place we wanted to visit was the Hassan II Mosque in Casablanca - one of the largest mosques in the world, featuring the world’s tallest minaret at 210 metres. It is also one of the few mosques in Morocco open to non-Muslim visitors.
We decided to camp in nearby Mohammedia, planning to drive into Casablanca early in the morning to visit the mosque. After the visit, we would still have enough time to leave the city and continue towards the wilder, more remote stages of the trip.
